What is Certification Group?

Certification group provides a guided introduction to high-power rocketry, including basic aerodynamics, fabrication techniques, and computer-aided design. Participation in certification group culminates in achieving level 1 and 2 certification by launching at a monthly launch sponsored by the Tripoli Rocketry Association or National Association of Rocketry.

The Process

After receiving a brief series of introductory lectures, members design and fabricate their rocket over the course of a semester. Build leads who have previously completed the process guide new members through each step, from initial design to airframe layup to final adjustments and launch procedure. After a successful recovery following a level 1 launch, rockets may be immediately reused (with a passing score on a regulatory exam) to achieve level 2 certification.

At the beginning of each semester, we approve a limited number of individuals to become certified on a first-come, first-serve basis due to the limited number of build leads. Attend the first meeting in a semester to receive sign-up details. As a number of individuals usually drop out of the program due to the time committment, we are able to accommodate a short wait-list.
