What is High Power Rocket Certification?

High-powered certification provides members a guided introduction to high-power rocketry, including basic aerodynamics, fabrication techniques, and computer-aided design. The certification process helps members achieve Level 1 and 2 certifications by launching at a monthly launch sponsored by the Tripoli Rocketry Association or National Association of Rocketry.

The Process

LRA members who are approved to build certification rockets design and fabricate their rocket over the course of a semester. Senior LRA members who have previously completed the process guide new members through each step, from initial design to airframe layup to final adjustments and launch procedure. After a successful recovery following a Level 1 launch, rockets may be immediately reused (with a passing score on a regulatory exam) to achieve level 2 certification.
